Local Solutions changes board, prepares for November elections
EUREKA -- Local Solutions, a local political action committee, announced
Friday that Michael Twombly has stepped down and that Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap
will join Patrick Riggs, Alice Woodworth and Dennis Huber on the board
of directors.
Sopoci-Belknap is currently the director of Democracy Unlimited of Humboldt
County. In 2004 she was elected to the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District
board of directors. In the June primary she served as the campaign co-manager
and spokesperson for Measure T, which was passed by Humboldt County voters
to prohibit campaign contributions to county elections from out of county
corporations.
Dennis Huber, a co-founder of Local Solutions, said Sopoci-Belknap “has
demonstrated real leadership and organizational skills, and with
such important elections coming up, her help will be a tremendous
asset.”
Huber added that Local Solutions plans to be involved in several races
this fall, and might make more changes in order to provide support for
the many progressive candidates up for election this November across
the county.
Sopoci-Belknap said, “My hope is that we can help elect people
to office who will more accurately represent the people of Humboldt
County.”
Local Solutions was formed by Riggs, Twombly, Woodworth and Huber, who
met while working together in the successful campaign to defeat the recall
of Paul Gallegos in 2004.
Local Solutions will be holding interviews with candidates next week
and making endorsements for the November election soon after.
