Local Solutions to Meet with Candidates
by Rebecca S. Bender
With the filing period closed for candidates for the November election,
the local political action committee Local Solutions will be conducting
interviews in the coming days to consider its endorsements for what promises
to be a spirited race.
Local Solutions Board member Patrick Riggs said Friday that he’d
be extending invitations to all candidates for the Eureka and Arcata
city councils and the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District board
of directors.
The four-member board will then sit down with each interested candidate
for half an hour before making its endorsement decisions — likely
in the next week or so, Riggs guessed.
The committee previously endorsed Humboldt County 4th District Supervisor
Bonnie Neely in the primary election in June.
In other Local Solutions developments, Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap joined
the board of directors last week as Michael Twombly stepped down. She
joins Riggs, Alice Woodworth and Dennis Huber.
Sopoci-Belknap is the director of Democracy Unlimited of Humboldt County
and served in the June primary as the campaign co-manager for Measure
T, the ordinance prohibiting non-local corporations from contributing
to county elections. She also sits on the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water
District board of directors.
Local Solutions most recently worked on the re-election of Humboldt
County District Attorney Paul Gallegos and the passage of Measure T.
