LOCAL SOLUTIONS PAC PREPARES FOR FALL ELECTIONS
Progressive Political Action Committee Adds
Sopoci-Belknap
to Board of Directors
EUREKA – Local Solutions, a local political action committee
(PAC), made public today a recent change in the make-up of its'
Board of Directors. The group announced that Michael Twombly
has stepped down and that Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap will join Patrick
Riggs, Alice Woodworth and Dennis Huber on the board.
Sopoci-Belknap is currently the Director of Democracy Unlimited
of Humboldt County. In 2004 she was elected to the Humboldt Bay
Municipal Water District Board of Directors and in the last election
she served as the campaign co-manager and spokesperson for Measure
T, which successfully passed in June to prohibit campaign contributions
from outside corporations.
“We are excited about the opportunity to work with Kaitlin,” said
Dennis Huber, a co-founder of Local Solutions. “She has demonstrated
real leadership and organizational skills, and with such important
local elections coming up, her help will be a real asset.” Huber
went on to say that Local Solutions plans to be involved in several
races this fall, and might be making more changes in order to
provide support for the many progressive candidates up for election
this November across the county.
“I am honored to accept the invitation to join Local Solutions,” said
Sopoci-Belknap. “The majority of people in Humboldt County
have progressive values and want to protect local control, worker’s
rights, the environment, and human rights, but at this time there
are many people in local office who do not share those values.
My hope is that we can help elect people to office who will more
accurately represent the people of Humboldt County.”
Local Solutions was formed by Riggs, Twombly, Woodworth and Huber
who met while working together against the unsuccessful recall
campaign against District Attorney Paul Gallegos in 2004. The PAC
has worked on several campaigns since then, including the re-election
of the District Attorney and the passage of Measure T this past
June.
Local Solutions will be holding interviews with candidates next
week and making endorsements for the November election soon after.
Candidates interested in seeking endorsement should call Patrick
Riggs at (707) 496-3756.
